The Tanner Times

Parents,

I hope you all had a great weekend. There is a lot going on over the next couple of weeks, so please make sure you read through everything carefully. Here's the latest news...

*Field Trip - Our field trip to Cheekwood is tomorrow, October 24th. Students need to bring a lunch unless you signed them up for a school lunch on the field trip permission form. Please make sure your child has comfortable walking shoes and their yellow PPE t-shirt. We will leave the school at around 9:30 and should return shortly after 12:00.

*Field Trip Chaperones - Please contact me if you signed up to be a chaperone for tomorrow's field trip. I want to make sure the adults I have listed are still planning on attending. Chaperones will need to meet us at Cheekwood by 9:45. Per MNPS policy siblings are not allowed to attend. The cost for attending is $22, which can be paid at the Cheekwood entrance.

*Picture Day - Wednesday is retake and class picture day.

*Leggings - Please make sure your kiddos have skirts or skorts over their leggings. Leggings are not to be worn by themselves.

*Class Allergy - Please be mindful of dairy and egg allergies when deciding on what birthday treats you are bringing in for your child's birthday. There is a student with both of those allergies in the classroom. You can always contact me if you are not sure what to send in. Birthday treats should be passed out during their lunch period.

*Spelling Words - We will not have spelling words this week due to the field trip and conference day on Friday. I will still be sending a math sheet in their homework folders.

*Conferences - Friday is our conference day. Students do not report to school.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great week!

The Tanner Times

Parents,

I hope you all had a wonderful break! Here's the latest class news....

*Pumpkin - Let me know if you have a pumpkin that can be spared. We are going to do a few different activities with pumpkins and pumpkin seeds next week. I figured I would check with you all before I picked up a couple for the classroom. I can promise you that the pumpkin will not be returned in one piece.  :)

*Independence - One area I like to focus on each year is independence. I find that it helps our classroom run smoothly and builds up their confidence. This month's focus is shoe tying. Can your child tie their shoes on their own? If not, please make sure you are practicing this skill at home. This will help them and their teacher at the same time!

*Conferences - Conferences are on Friday, October 27th. Click on this link to snag one of the last available slots. I can also meet with you on a different date if you are not available on the 27th.

*Behavior Focus - We are focusing on treating others with kindness and respect in the classroom. Ask your child if they think they are treating others with kindness and respect. Also, make sure your child feels empowered to communicate to their friends and to me if they feel they are not being treated with kindness and respect.

Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great week!

The "Behavior Focus" section highlights class behaviors we are trying to master. I will update those once we have improved those particular behaviors. Please look over those each week and talk to your child about how they are doing in both areas. They are both found on the right side of the blog beneath the spelling words.

*Field Trip Payment - Please go to School Cash Online to pay for your child's upcoming trip to Cheekwood.

*Upcoming Dates - Make sure you are checking out the "Upcoming Dates" section of the blog to know what is going on at PPE and in our classroom. We have several events happening in the next month.

Parents,

I hope you all are having a great week. Here's the latest news....

*Cheekwood - We will be going to Cheekwood on Tuesday, October 24th. If you would like to be a parent chaperone for this field trip, please let me know by Friday, September 22nd. Per MNPS policy, no siblings are allowed to attend.

Parent chaperones will need to provide their own transportation, meet us at Cheekwood by 9:50am, and be available until 12:15pm. The cost is $22.00 per adult. Chaperones will need to pay this at the Cheekwood entrance. This will likely be the only field trip we can take a large group of parent chaperones. Our other field trips have a limited amount of adults that we are allowed to bring.

The Tanner Times

Parents,

I hope you all had a long and restful Labor Day weekend. Here's the latest news.....

*Spelling - The first grade team has decided to begin spelling words this week. Our normal list of words won't begin for another month or two, but we wanted to go ahead and review some words before those lists began. You will find a list of words in your child's homework folder. Please make sure they know those words before the spelling test on Friday. We will also be practicing those words at school.

*Homework - Homework will begin this week.  You will find a list of spelling words and a math fact sheet in your child's Friday folder. The homework sheets are considered optional. I will give them Dojo points for each sheet they complete. However, I do need them reading for 15-20 minutes outside of school each day.

*Progress Reports - Progress reports will be sent home today in your child's homework folder. I didn't give out many grades during the first couple of weeks of school, so their grades are based on a limited amount of data. I will also be giving you some of their beginning of the year assessment results.

*Picture Day - Picture Day is this Thursday!

I hope you all have a great week! Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

The Tanner Times

Parents,

We're starting to settle into more of a routine this week, which is always a welcome sight. Please read the following items carefully and let me know if you have any questions!

*Seesaw - Seesaw posts show unedited work. This is done intentionally. This will show you exactly where they are at academically. It is also a great conversation starter. For example, we posted a sheet this week that had the ABCs listed on the side the paper, but not every letter had something written next to it. Ask your child what they were doing for that activity. Thank you for the great feedback you all are giving on their work!

*Invest - The Invest link has been added to the "Helpful Links" section of the blog. You can click on that link to donate to our Invest campaign. Please click on the link and choose "I support PPE, but cannot give at this time" if you are unable to contribute right now. It will still count towards our participation goal that will earn the kiddos a popsicle party.

*Tiger Time - Tiger Time will begin August 29th for all students. Some students may go to a different room for instruction during that time. You will receive a letter in your child's Friday folder if they will be going to a different class. Tiger Time is from 2:10 - 2:55.

*Sorting Hat Quiz - Some students asked if I would send you all the Pottermore Sorting Hat quiz. This is a more accurate and detailed quiz that determines what house best fits their character traits. That link has been added to the "Helpful Links" section of the blog. They will need one-on-one assistance with this quiz, which is why I didn't use it in the classroom.

*Class Link - I have also added Class Link to the "Helpful Links" section of the blog. This program replaced Clever as the portal to all of the programs available to MNPS students. They can use Class Link to access, I-Ready, Lexia, Xtramath, Brainpop Jr.,  and many other helpful programs. You should have received a QR code and an informational strip of paper in their Friday folder last week.

Contact me if you have any questions. Have a great rest of the week!

The Tanner Times 8/14

Parents,

We have had a wonderful first few days in room 18. I wanted to give you access to my class blog. This is my main method of communication. Please spend a minute looking at all the different aspects of the blog. If you are on a phone you may need to scroll down to the bottom and select "view website version" in order to access the features on the side like the calendar, schedule, and other features. Let me know if you have any questions. Here's the latest news......

*Seesaw - Please click on this link to connect to your child's Seesaw account. We use Seesaw to share what we are doing and learning in the classroom. Your kiddos will upload pictures of their writing journal, math journal, group projects, and many other items through Seesaw. You can also add comments to their work. They get excited when they see those messages!

*Headphones and Jackets - Please make sure your child has headphones and a light jacket to keep at school. One side of the room is typically a lot cooler than the other side, so it would be helpful if they were able to keep a light jacket in their backpack in case they get cold.

*Backup Snacks - It would be helpful if you were able to send in some backup snacks (for your child only) in case your child forgets to pack them one day. Most parents just send in a couple in a sealable bag with their child's name on it.

*Daily Needs - Your child will need to bring a water bottle to school each day. This will help limit the number of trips they take out to the hallway.

Please reach out if you ever have any questions. I responded quicker through text typically. Have a great week!
