The Tanner Times

Parents,

I hope you all had a restful weekend. Here's the latest news....

*Read-A-Thon - Minutes read at school count towards their overall reading goal. We get around 60 minutes of reading a day during the Read-A-Thon.

*Homework - Homework will resume after spring break.

*NO TECH - We are going without tech today (2/26) and tomorrow (2/27) to help the class complete that Read-A-Thon challenge. They can mark that challenge off as long as they don't use screens at home both days.

*Field Trip Info - First graders will be going on a field trip to the Tennessee State Capitol Building and Tennessee Supreme Court on Tuesday, March 26th. The cost of the field trip is $5.00 per student and can be paid at schoolcashonline.com. The State Museum and Representative Caleb Hemmer (parent of a PPE first grader) will be helping with the Capitol tour. State Supreme Court Justice Sarah Campbell (parent of a PPE first grader) will be helping with the visit to the Supreme Court. There will be a limit to the number of parent chaperones we can take. We will send out more information concerning chaperones at a later date.

Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great week!

The Tanner Times

Parents,

I hope everyone had a great weekend. The weeks leading up to spring break are pretty busy, so make sure you read through everything carefully and keep an eye on the important dates section of the blog. Here's the latest news.....

*Read-A-Thon - The Read-A-Thon begins Tuesday, February 20th and ends Monday, March 4th. Your child will be receiving a folder tomorrow with all of the Read-A-Thon information and reading logs. That folder must stay in their backpacks, because it will be used at school and at home. Please make sure your child places it back in their backpacks after they write down the books they read at home.

*Homework - Homework will not be assigned over the next two weeks due to the Read-A-Thon. I am instead challenging each student to read at least 60 minutes outside of school every day, and possibly more on the weekend. The 60 minutes can be spread throughout the day. They can read on the bus, in the car, under the covers, or anywhere else they would like. Here are some ways they can read at home.....

-audio books

-read independently using digital or paper books.

-be read to by a sibling or adult

-takes turns reading with a sibling or adult

-Playaway books

-books from videos found on sites like Youtube, BookFlix, or Storyline Online

*Used Book Sale - The used book sale is February 20th - February 22nd. We are scheduled to attend as a class on Tuesday, February 20th at 9:30. Please send in money if you would like them to participate. Books are typically $1 or less.

*Field Trip - Our field trip to TPAC is Thursday, February 22nd. Please make sure they have their field trip t-shirt and a lunch if you signed up for them to bring one from home.

Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great week!

*Field Trip Permission Slip - Please sign and return the field trip permission slip that was in your child's Friday folder. The trip to TPAC is on Thursday, February 22nd. No chaperones are needed for this field trip.

*Black History Month Reading Calendar - I have added a Black History Month reading calendar to the "Documents" section of the blog. There are books for each day read by our very own PPE staff. Just scan the QR code to access each day's book.

*Valentine's Day - Please make sure your child is working on their Valentine's Day box at home. They will need cards for each student and a box to hold all of the cards they receive. You will find a class roster in the "Documents" section of the blog.

*Behavior Focus - I have updated the "Behavior Focus" section of the blog to reflect the the areas the class can show some improvement on in the cafeteria and the classroom. Please have a conversation with your child about how they can show some improvement in those areas.

Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great week!
