The Tanner Times

Parents,

I hope you all are having a great week. Here's the latest news....

*House Meeting - Our next House Meeting is this Friday. Students have been asked to wear their black PPE house shirts.

*T-Shirts - Need a different size house shirt for your child? Please send me a message and return the washed t-shirt to me no later than Wednesday, October 1st. That is a hard deadline! New shirts will be reordered on October 6th.

*Cheekwood Field Trip - Our field trip to Cheekwood is Tuesday, October 21st. Please let me know if you would like to be a chaperone on this trip. You will need to pay for your ticket and be available from 9:50 - 12:00.

*Invest - 1st grade has a little less than 40% participation in our Invest campaign. Please click on this link to participate.

Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great rest of the week!

The Tanner Times

Parents,

I hope you all are having a great start to your week. Here's the latest class news....

*Absence - I will not be at school on Tuesday, September 9th. I have a training session to attend. Please contact the office if you need to get a message to your child.

*Homework - Homework begins this week. Students are to read for 15 minutes each night, write their spelling words 3 times, and complete the math fact sheet in their orange homework folder. All homework is due the following Monday.

*Tiger Time - Tiger Time started last week. This block allows us to work with students on skills based on their current academic needs. Some students may go to another classroom during this block. The groups are fluid, so they might not be with that teacher for the remainder of the quarter.

*Picture Day - Individual pictures will be taken this Wednesday, September 10th. Students need to wear SSA clothing.

*Shoe Tying - Please make sure your child can either tie their shoes or is learning how to tie their shoes.

Have a great week!

The Tanner Times

Parents,

I hope you all are having a great week. Communication has been tricky due to the internet issues at school, so I apologize if it is taking longer to get back with you. Here is the latest class news....

*Progress Reports: 1st grade will not be sending home progress reports tomorrow. Instead, you will be given their most recent testing data. This data is being used to help guide classroom instruction and should not be a cause for alarm. Please let me know if you have any questions.  :)

*Grades: I am just now at a point where I feel comfortable taking grades. I try not to rush it at the beginning of 1st grade because it takes awhile for the students to adjust to new routines and expectations. With that being said, I would not use grades as the main indicator of how your child is doing in class. We are required to give retakes on anything below a 70, which can often inflate grades. I would pay close attention to anything that is being posted in Seesaw. This will let you know how they are performing on 1st grade skills before I have intervened. It is also a great way to see if they can explain what they were supposed to do on that assignment.

*Jersey Day: This Friday is football/sports day at PPE. Students are encouraged to wear their sports gear tops and SSA bottoms to school. Bonus points will be give if your child comes in with UK or Chicago Cubs gear. Points will most certainly be deducted if they come in wearing Duke or Milwaukee gear!

Happy Wednesday!

The Tanner Times

Parents,

I hope you have a great week. Things are starting to move a little smoother in room #134. Here's the latest news....

*Breakfast - Please let me know if your child is supposed to be getting a school breakfast. I have a large number (13) of students asking for breakfast each morning, but it seems like they are eating breakfast at home as well. While I want everyone to have a healthy breakfast, it is making a huge dent in our morning ELA instruction. Breakfast is in the classroom this year, so we're using a lot of our instructional time to retrieve breakfast, finish eating, and clean up messes. Thank you for letting me know if your child should be eating at school each morning.

*Seesaw - Please have conversations about what your child is posting in Seesaw each week. This will help you gain an understanding if your child is mastering 1st grade skills and giving their best effort. Don't forget that most of the work pictured in Seesaw is what they are doing before I have checked it. You can also have a conversation with them if they aren't entering things in Seesaw. It is their responsibility to enter their work in Seesaw. I am pushing independence and responsibility in the classroom!

*1st Day Forms - I am still missing a few 1st day forms. Please send those in by the end of next week.

*Homework - Make sure your child is reading a minimum of 15 minutes each night. It would also be helpful if they are practicing their addition and subtraction facts at home. The "Math Fact Cafe" link in the "Helpful Links" section of the blog will allow you to print off fact fluency sheets. Let me know if you need any help with that site.

Have a great weekend!

The Tanner Times

Parents,

It's been an exciting and busy first week in room #134! Please take a quick look around this blog for some resources that might be helpful for you this year. I will do my best to keep the Specials schedule updated each week, but there is a schedule for the year under the "Documents" section of the blog. Let me know if you have any questions. Here's the latest news......

*Extra Clothes - Please keep a set of extra clothes in your child's backpack. The office staff has informed me that our backup supply is already running dangerously low due to a large number of bathroom accidents.

*Headphones - Please make sure your child has a set of headphones for class. I need all students to have headphones by Monday.

*Dismissal Plans - Several kiddos have different dismissal methods during the week. Please text me your child's dismissal plans at the beginning of the week if they get dismissed differently on different days throughout the week. I want to make sure each child is getting home the correct way.

*Bus Notes - Your child will need to send me a note if your child is riding on bus different than their normal bus, or if they are getting off at a different spot than they normally do. All bus notes have to be signed by an office staff member, so please have those sent in early in the morning. Handwritten notes are preferred, but you can send me an email if you forget.

I hope you all have a wonderful and restful weekend!
